Take those leftover cans and turn them into a garden! For this activity all that is needed is a can, a little paint, a few vegetable starts and some creativity. For plant markers we made birch bark flags and wrote the names on them with a permanent marker. Add sun, water and soil and little gardeners can grow their own food!

Birch Bark Plant Marker
This is an easy, cheap and fun craft to make with kids. Especially when the sun is shining and you are sitting under the real cherry blossoms–it’s great! First collect some branches. It’s good to get a variety, some kids want delicate stems, others want one big chunky stick. Next, buy the tissue paper colors of your choice and cut them into 1-2 inch squares. Put a big dab of craft glue onto the branch, and pinch the tissue paper square in the middle, give a slight twist and stick it onto the glue. Be sure to cover front, sides and back of the branch. Don’t worry about the shape, blossoms can be rather flat or folded and twisted more, each child will do it differently and that’s what makes each one special. Then stick it in a pot, hang it from the ceiling or wave it around in the May sunshine and enjoy! We also made birch bark flags to celebrate spring. Simply cut the birch bark into desirable shape and glue onto birch twigs. These are fun, I wanted to make a hundred to decorate a sand castle. Maybe someday….
